ok so i go my new processor in the mail to day a used AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Processor, Black Edition and a Cooler Master Seidon 120V to cool it and my mother board is a gigabite and has a am2+ proc Slot and my psu is a dynex model dx 400wps

ok so i think im just gonna install everything and have it work perfect and of corse that didnt happen

i took the old cooler off it was like a 2000 rpm fan and tryed to install the cooler master
so i unplug everything and flip the Mob over to screw the back plate cooler mount thing in and come to find out the existing back thing for the fan and heat sink isnt screwed in, it has little plastic pin snap things similar to ones iv seen on cheap toys that where just to cheap to use screws and I have no earthly idea how to remove all 4 of them without shattering the Mob so I'm at a dead end there.

i plug everything back in and decide that maby the new proc would be ok with the existing 2k fan/ heat sink as i am not going to be gaming on it just yet or putting too much stress on it
so i install it just the same as the old processor, im sure i did this part right, and try to turn on the Pc and it doesnt start at all the fans spin but thats about it, so i turn it off and with a sigh I put the old processor in and it just kicks right on no problem im using it right now to type this actually

but my questions are
1.is my new, very expensive 200$, used proc bad? it doesnt look burnt or anything...
2.does my psu even support the cpu?
3.is that 2k fan enough? it might be 1800 btw (also when i removed my new proc after trying to run the pc is wasnt even warm at all...its possible i didnt have power pluged in right i suppose as i repluged it in after i put my old proc agin i wish i could go back and double check this sigh
4.how do i get these plastic pin snap things off so i can install the screws? should i take it in a shop?
5. does amazon accept returns....? there goes my Christmas money...
6.whats your opinion on all this i welcome it 100%

It wont work because that cpu is for motherboards that are am3 get a am3 board but take the cpu out and check if you didn't bend pins when putting it in a wrong motherboard

the motherboard has an am2+ and literally 4 different people have told me told me that am2+ supports am3

Those people are stupid it will never work, just buy a am3 board if you cant return it and you need a gpu for this processor to get started but im sure you have one any ways good luck

thanks

thanks

i belive you because i had trouble fitting it in that cpu slot however i did get it to go in there with very little force and i did check the processor for bent pins and everything looks to be in order i really hope its ok and and i recall finding am2 written next to the slot but i disregarded that like a fool its really too bad that i got the wrong info on that slot ill just get another board
is there a chance the proc is still ok? like i said i didnt "force" it in there but it didnt fit really easy just fairly easy

This is both false and needlessly abrasive:

Many AM2 and AM2+ boards have BIOS updates available that allow them to support AM3 CPUs. The CPUs will physically fit and assuming the board has the appropriate BIOS it will absolutely work. (source: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/socket-am3-phenom,2148.html)

That being said, without knowing exactly what motherboard is being used, we cannot tell you with certainty if the specified CPU will work with the motherboard in question. If the motherboard never received the appropriate BIOS update (Gigabyte never wrote one) or if the motherboard has not had the updated BIOS applied the CPU may very well NOT work.

Edited for a slight rewording and to remove irrelevant and potentially confusing info.

@Kandogames

After re-reading your original post I'd strongly suggest you get some in-person help from someone who is knowledgeable about building computers. There are several red flags that come up.

1. The AMD Phenom II X6 1090T - new or used is not worth nearly $200.
1a. You generally can't tell if a processor is good with a physical inspection. Just because the processor "looks fine" doesn't mean that it works.
2. You shouldn't be messing with the CPU cooler retention bracket if you don't understand what you should be doing.
2a. It might be helpful if you posted pictures about the "plastic pin snap things" because I'm really not sure what you're talking about.
3. Although it may work, I can guarantee you that Dynex does not make good power supplies... or good anything else for that matter.

If you bought your parts directly from Amazon, I'm pretty sure they have a good return policy. On the other hand if you purchased your parts from an individual or other company who uses Amazon as a storefront, you'd have to consult them for an answer.

Did you install RAM, a Hard Drive, a video card? Do you have all the proper power cables plugged in to the motherboard?

im using the pc right now and i know what im doing apparently because i competently took the mob out of the case and unplugged everything took the proc out and put it back in and put it back together and it working fine its running cooler then ever with the new thermal paste i just cant get these plastic snaps off their located where the screw should be there are four of them surrounding the proc and i need to take them out so i can install the cooler because i dont have a place to screw the cooling unit down onto the proc with the snaps in the way i need to get the plastic snaps off flip the Mob over and install the mount for the pump so im probly just gonna get a new Mob so i can install the liquid cooler but your right about the psu it does suck i think what im gonna do is sit on the processor, assume that its fine the individual i bought it from has a good record i probably just need that bios update or maby its the psu if its not the psu ill try installing the cpu asap do you think its the psu thats the problem?

the motherboard is GA-MA78GM-S2H (rev1.1) but it wont let me on the gigabyte site to download a thing idk what to do

iv got 4gb of a ram but no video card and yes i have a hard drive i was able to get on the gigabyte site i typed in my Mob
GA-MA78GM-S2H (rev1.1) http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2814&kw=GA-MA78GM-S2H1.1#ov
and i was able to get the bios update for am3! now im gonna install this thank you i hope this all works out but i doubt ill get the plastic snaps off

sense im pretty sure these plastic pin snaps dont come off i had a crazy idea is there any kind of glue i could use that would be safe for the Mob i know its kinda psychotic but it would defiantly work if the glue didnt mess with the Mob if such a glue exists do you know of it? if there is glue that would be safe i could just put glue around the pump, not letting it near the processor of corse
