I'm confused: Connecting HDTV to PC (HDMI-Mini HDMI) while PC is connected on monitor via DVI.

Here's the thing: I want to connect my PC (which itself does have an HDMI port but not on the dedicated graphics card, gpu has a mini HDMI) to my new HDTV that has 4 HDMI ports.

My computer is currently connected to my computer monitor with a DVI cable.

I seem to have 2 options:
1. To get an adapter for my DVI cable that is now going into my monitor and turn it into HDMI and connect the other end of the HDMI to my TV.

or, and this seems like a better option, 2. Get a Mini HDMI-HDMI cable, and connect the mini side on my graphics card and other end on TV.

Now, If I leave my computer as is (DVI) connected to my monitor and I ADD a mini HDMI, which will go to my TV, will I have picture on BOTH my pc monitor AND the TV or will they interfere somehow? If I do this, I will use my computer and monitor as I'm using it now, and when I switch the output on my TV to HDMI 2 (or 3, or 4, HDMI 1 is my comcast cable) then I will also have picture on my TV. Will both TV and Monitor work at the same time or will only the TV work?

Solution
I'd vote for "2. Get a Mini HDMI-HDMI cable, and connect the mini side on my graphics card and other end on TV."

You set them up in Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Display Settings - as duplicate. Then put what you want on each monitor and TV.

If you set them as Duplicate, you get the same image on both.
If you want different on each screen, choose Extend these displays.
