Are there 8 gb ddr5 gtx 980 available? because when i run the unigine benchmark at the end it stats gtx 980 4095 x 1 but in cpu-z it says 8096 ddr5 gb?

Also on can you runi tit says you have 4096gb ram on GPU

Solution
Hate to say it, but that might be a strong possibility. But never mind that, as 4Gb should be good enough to handle most games.
Also, I just found out, a fair chance of your GPU is carrying 8GB as recently some GTX 980 M chips have 8GB memory:

But that should be a GTX 980 M and not GTX 980.
The tangible amount of RAM your card carries is 4GB. The extra amount displayed in DXdiag info or Uniengine is the shared memory or pagefile memory that Windows has dedicated has video memory.

It is not a real memory but a memory buffer fetched out of your system memory (RAM), just to trick the OS into believing they are real video memory (to speed up stuff).

because when i made the order for the laptop i put the gtx 980 8 gb ddr in it...so was confused

Nvidia is yet to release the 8GB version of the GTX 980 and it is still not in market. Maybe your laptop manufacturer considered the buffer memory while mentioning the GPU memory size.

crafty guys...so ive actually got a 4gb gtx 980 right?

Did you get a Sager NP9870? Desktop GTX 980 in laptops comes with 8gb of vram, so there could be something wrong with your card. How much VRAM it shows that you've got on GPU-Z ?

yes it was this laptop.....in cpu-z it states memory as 8192mb or something along those lines
