hello thanks for looking
i currently have this set up

16 gb ddr4
asus strix rx 480 8gb

i found a deal on newegg for a new mob and amd ryzen 5 1500x around 300 dollars
link here https://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.3482317

dont get me wrong the system is running great but ive started to stream a bit on twitch and the i3 cant handle certain games while streaming im plan to upgrade pretty soon so my question is when i perform the upgrade how would i go on activating windows again i have a retail copy not oem and i have windows on a ssd if that matters

I'd go with an i7 personally, if the budget's around $300. The 1500x is a 4c/8t cpu same as in i7. Ipc isn't quite as strong as intel's and an i7 will be faster out of the box than an oc'd 1500x. The cpu itself is cheaper but when factoring having to get a new motherboard and reinstall windows there's no advantage there. Not unless planning to upgrade to an r7 8c/16t in the near future. That's about the only argument I could see for ryzen vs just dropping an i7 into your current system.
If wanting to livestream and game, I'd look hard at a total R5-1600 swap, or, dropping in a 6700K/7700K (latter might require update to latest MB BIOS first..); an R5 4 core will not outperform the i7 based rig, but, the R5-1600 will due to it's 6 cores....
