Question I'm fairly certain that my old motherboard damaged my new GPU. What are the chances that my CPU could be damaged from my new GPU?

I believe I may have discussed this in an older post, but I recently had a lot of issues with my new PC. I was planning on returning a good portion of the parts back, so I was preparing to remove the parts from my new build to place them in packages to return. I I still needed a computer to do work with and I also wanted to test my new GPU to see how the performance would be in my old PC build, so I installed the new GPU into the old motherboard in my old build. At the time I believe that only my old GPU was damaged in my old PC build and that everything else was OK.

I believed that I damaged my older GPU (1650 Super) in the first place due to residual liquid left over from a bad compressed air can cleaner that I bought from Walmart. I also believed that I may have unintentionally blown dust into the wrong places within the GPU when trying to blow out all the dust using the air can cleaner. I did not consider at the time that the motherboard which I also sprayed could have been damaged. I placed my new GPU into my old motherboard and made sure to redownload windows using my old 500 GB SATA SSD. I then proceeded to try out KOF XV to see how it would run.

I noticed that there was really bad frame rates when playing the game. I was not getting smooth 60 FPS through the entire gameplay session. Even doing simple things like throws made the game slow down very badly. These are symptoms I noticed with my old GPU in my old PC built as well after I cleaned it with the compressed air can cleaner. At the time I suspected that maybe the CPU or even motherboard was causing the frame rate drops now, but I thought that my GPU was still safe because I didn't clean it with the bad compressed air can.

After realizing that I downloaded a very bad BIOS update, I reverted the BIOS back to a a beta version that everyone said was much more stable and put my new GPU back into my old motherboard. I optimistically believed that I had solved all my issues, but now I realize I have far more worse issues than even before. I was now facing the same frame rate drops, graphical glitches, and overall issues that my old GPU had in my old motherboard, but now with my new GPU my new motherboard.

The symptoms are similar to how my PC build was before it got significantly worse over time. The game does run at 60 FPS, but it looks like it's constantly stuttering and not smooth. During certain instances like doing supers it will drop to the low 50s sometimes. I am experiencing very bad screen tearing I did not experience before. I tried using freesync on and off and it made no difference. There are just overall graphical glitches that are on the screen that did not exist before.

I believe that I might have damaged the motherboard from the residual liquid that I might not have seen caused by the compressed air can cleaner I was using. I think it's far too much of a coincidence for my brand new, significantly stronger 6700XT to be suffering from similar issues to my old 1650 Super after I placed it into my old motherboard. Those issues range from very bad screen tearing, screen glitches, and lower frame rates in games that it did not suffer from before I put my new GPU into my old motherboard.

Before anyone asks, I'll answer the most common questions. Did you make sure that your drivers are up to date? Yes I made sure that my drivers are up to date. I used different versions of each update. I used the full install, minimum install, and just the drivers and I still suffer from the same issues regardless . When I first installed windows on my PC the games I played were smooth with no visual issues at all. I even played while live streaming on high settings and it was still buttery smooth, so drivers could not be the issue. Did you do a fresh install of windows? Yes I did several times in fact. It made no difference. Did you use DDU to uninstall the drivers and then reinstall them? Yes I did. It had no impact on performance or fixing the graphical glitches.

I plan on getting my GPU RMAed and replacing my motherboard with the ASRock X670 steel legend, and making sure that both the ram and SSD are on the QVL for the best compatibility possible. For the ram I got the G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6400 and for the SSD I got the Kingston FURY Renegade 1TB PCIe Gen 4.0 NVMe M.2. The only parts I'm keeping are the PSU, CPU Cooler, and the CPU. I recently put my new GPU back into my new motherboard in my new PC build and I'm using it until I return the parts.

I just want to ask, assuming that I am correct about my old motherboard damaging my new GPU, is there any risk of damage to my CPU, CPU cooler, or the PSU using my partially damaged GPU? I heard that the GPU when seated in the first PCIe bracket is somewhat connected to the CPU if I'm not mistaken, please correct me if I'm wrong. Is there any risk of damage to the CPU using this damaged GPU? Due to my old motherboard being Intel and not AMD I didn't place my CPU in my old motherboard, so there's no risk of damage to the CPU from the old motherboard, but I am worried that my GPU being damaged could cause problems that I cannot realize in time.

I really like my 7600X and I got a really good deal on it on eBay for $195. I don't want to replace it if it's not necessary. I'm really upset because besides my PC not booting properly at first after downloading that awful BIOS update that I mentioned in older posts, which force me to remove the CMOS battery to get the PC to boot, the PC worked flawlessly and my games were working smoothly again. I'm really upset that now it's suffering from the exact same issues my older PC had just because I stupidly put my new GPU into my old motherboard. If anyone wants to ask for further details I will respond as swiftly as possible.

With the change from old Intel to new Ryzen, did you do an OS reinstall?
Yes I did. I didn't know that my 7600x had an integrated GPU in there, so I did put my old GPU into the PC before I reinstalled windows. I made sure to do the BIOS update first and then I reinstalled windows to make sure that everything was as clean as possible.
