So I installed windows on my hdd then I got an SSD which I wanted to run my operating system on. I then installed windows onto my ssd and reformatted my HDD. I still get an option to boot into my old windows from a drive that has been formatted. (its second on the list)
I also went into my bios I have an Asus Z97-A. I'm a bit confused from here. I guess what i'm asking is what do I do to just have it boot from the windows on the ssd and forget the HDD ever had windows on it.

You didn't delete the partition when you formatted, the boot record still resides and points to an invalid install. Two methods, easiest get "EasyBCD", it's a boot editor, you'll be able to remove the false entry with it. The other way, is to just format/ reinstall again and delete the partition too.

When you installed on the SSD, was the HDD connected? And did it still have its Windows install on it?

If so, what happened was:
The SSD install put the boot info on the HDD (as usually happens). Since there was already a Windows install (on the HDD), it just made another entry for the boot sequence.

To fix:
EasyBCD

The red wire or the yellow wire!? Thanks again I picked the right one. no longer see the other option. But I did notice a weird file on my HDD after I reformatted it, it was empty for a while then this file appeared. Its a seemingly random letter and number assortment (Ex.a87a21c7423461f93) and contains about 20 files of other 4 digit numbers also netfx_extended netfx_core windows installer programs???, a graphics folder. what the hell is this? can I just delete it all?
