Question I'm having a problem selecting multiple items

We are supposed to be able to select multiple items by holding down the CTRL key while selecting the items we want. But on my system with Windows 10, Windows is not cooperating. I may be able to select a few items but then the previous highlighted items which I selected while holding down the CTRL key all of a sudden get not selected.

Is there a fix for this issue?

That article deals with disk cleanup. I did run disk cleanup but the CTRL selecting multiple items is still not working correctly.
