I'm having hard drive problems

Alright, so I have a 2 TB hard drive that I would love to be able to use. I have it connected to my computer right now, but it doesn't work right.

Whenever I start-up my computer, I can see it in the windows manager (I'm running un-activated windows 10), But whenever I go to use it, i'm told via pop-up that the drive needs to be formatted before use. But when I go to format it, the drive disappears from windows manager, and the format does not proceed, it just sits until cancelled.

When I go to device manager, I can see the drive, (which is a Hitachi hds5c3020ala632), and everything seems normal.

I'm wondering if it might be corrupted, or just needs to be re-partitioned, and if it's fixable at all. I don't have any data that i know of on it either. After reading some reviews, it's looking like it might just be a short-lifetime drive. and might be time to toss it.

All input is helpful, thanks in advance for answers.

Assuming that you're talking about the windows check thing, it needs me to format the drive first.

Not sure why I would need to [strike]become poor[/strike] activate windows for this.
