I'm having problems with my computer recognizing my external hard drive

I had an external hard drive in a case, but I lost the power cord for it. When I realized that the company no longer made that power cord connection, I bought a new case. This is an old hard drive, and has gone through a couple moves. I haven't used it in probably 3 years now...
I have a 500GB Hitachi hard drive, and now it's in a rosewill case.
Now, when I plug it into the computer, it doesn't do anything. The computer doesn't even recognize a USB device has been plugged in. The drive doesn't show up on my computer or on my Disk Manager.

Is there anything I can do at this point, or is the actual hard drive bad?

Thank you!

Nope, not at all. The light on the case acts as if the hard drive is being accessed - it flashes like it normally would, and the hard drive doesn't make any weird noises.
