im installing my OS on an ssd and everything else on a 1tb HDD, how to go about doing it?

im building a new computer and i wanted to put the OS and some games on the 120GB samsung 840 evo SSD and then the rest of my files over to the hdd. im not asking for anyone to write a long tutorial, looking for some links that go about it in a new build. Also, if someone can chime in here, i want to know how i can keep my ssd from getting cluttered, i.e. how can i make sure what would normally save on the drive the os is on be saved to the hdd instead? what steps do i need to do in win 7 in order to change where stuff downloads to? if i can get some help on those 2 things, would be greatly appreciated. also, i guess since this is in the same realm, what kind of things should be saved on the ssd vs what should go to the hdd?

go into chrome / firefox etc... and change the location of your d/loads to your designated location you can also do this in utorrent just change the directories ...

what about programs like photoshop or antivirus or malware or any other program that you download? steam?

1) Browser downloads:
I created a download folder on the HDD and just periodically move files from the SSD over (or delete theme). This also helps prevent the HDD from starting up when I launch a browser which it would if the browser download was on the HDD.

2) Steam:
If you use Steam, then make sure it's installed to your HDD (i.e. "E:\Steam")

3) Pagefile:
Force it to max/min of 2GB (you can google for how)

4) Hibefil:
You can disable Hibernation through Samsung Magician if you wish since Windows startup on an SSD is pretty fast anyway. This save some space (about 75% or more of your System RAM so up to 8GB if you have 8GB installed)

Summary:
It's really not complicated and it's likely you won't have an issue anyway though you'll actually only have maybe 95GB of usable space after overprovisioning and formatting.

Make sure to use Samsung Magician to overprovision, test, update firmware.

Your PROGRAMS (aside from Steam or other games) should just be on the SSD.

*I know people who have about 40GB of used space on Windows 7 or 8 with a fairly basic install of Windows so it's really likely not going to be an issue for most people. I should add not to assume you've got plenty of space and start filling it up as UPDATES for Windows or other things (especially some games using your Documents or other folder) can slowly start to eat up space over the months.

i see, so if i wanted to install itunes, i wouldnt be able to instal it to my hdd, only the ssd? stuff like that is what im trying to figure out. i read about deleting the hibernation too so i'll be doing that as well. also, when installing my ssd, i saw a tutorial that partitioned the drive when installing the os, is that necessary?
