My family has been paying $53 + maintenance fees ($5) for internet from Charter for a while, maybe about a few years now. Currently there is a internet package in my area that is $60 for speeds starting at 60mbps, this is most likely not including maintenance fees, which would make it $65. I was wondering if there is anyway we could get faster speeds since money is an issue right now.

It generally depends how many people use the connection at the same time and what they do. 15m should be enough to do simple web surfing and some video streaming. Not like everyone can watch hidef at the same time but you can easily watch a number of regular def video at the same time.

You need to be sure everyone knows to limit file downloads. Most download systems have the ability to set limits and you should set it to less than 5mbit.

Only you can really answer if having more bandwidth will buy you anything. The largest advantage is for people who say download a lot or large games say from steam. There are some that are approaching 50gigbyte with their patches. It will take a very long time to download something like that...

Now of course if you have a person in your house that run torrent you can wipe out even the largest connections.

$60 for 15mbps?? that's a rip off! im with Comcast and have 150mbps down and 10mbps up for $90. i also have Verizon Fios available, thinking about switching because Verizon's upload matches their download 150/150, Also Verizon is $20 cheaper. Anyway, it sounds like a very good deal
