Question I'm preparing to remove the hard drive from an old laptop and I saw a video that said I firs need to disable the battery from within the BIOS

Unless that is a physical aspect of taking this particular laptop apart, what does the battery have to do with removing the drive?

I guess to completely remove power so you don't short circuit something

It's a good idea to remove the main battery that powers the laptop, you don't need to worry about the cmos battery for this. You shouldn't need to turn the laptop on to remove the battery (though watch out for leaks if the battery is swollen). You don't need to disable the battery from within bios.

If the service manual says so, then do it.

Some laptops, it is not "removable".

If you do any work or removal of hardware on laptop or pc, remove any soarce of power

Just take out the battery.
