i'm stuck!!!!! hard drive toast?

i just finished piecing together a new system. i'm stuck trying to install the os. i have a new unpartitioned hd. i have tried to partition with win 98 and it stalls at "verifying pool data.......". when i use the hd driver start up i get "there was an Int 13h error 2 reading drive 0 cylinder 1 head 1 seat 1 count 2". my connections all seem good. do i need to adjust bios? any help is greatly appreciated!

Any changes you make to your IDE controllers need to be specified in the BIOS. I would make sure it is set to 'Auto' with LBA enabled.

Also make sure you are using J50(furthest to the left next to the ribbon connection) for a master position. I would also make sure that you are using this drive with the ultra cable that is usually supplied (even though it should technically see it without it).
