Im stucked at 800 x 600 resolution,I get no signal when i try change it

I just bought a 24 inch tv lcd monitor, it has no hdmi, so i also bought vga to hdmi connector.
my pc wont boot and no signal on first install. so I use my old monitor to revert and set it to lowest resolution 800x 600 and it works. so my pc boot normally.. however
when I try 1024 x 768 or higher... my display turns no signal Im stucked at 800 x 600 resolution
i've already update my gpu latest drivers and still same what do you think guys? help me the small resolution really strain my eyes (

nvdia 9600gt 256bit 512mb
12gb ddr3 ram
500gb sata

try using the integrated gpu.

Or get a video card with HDMI output. VGA (analog) to HDMI (Digital) passive adapters can have a hard time working properly.
