I'm thinking about finally upgrading from stock! Need help!

So I finally decided to upgrade the PSU and graphics card on my HP Pavilion Slimline s5743w (http://tinyurl.com/p34pvbp).

I know I'll need a more powerful PSU for a really good gfx card but I don't know where to start. Help me! =(

Yea your current power supply is only 220W, you would want at least a 500W powr supply if you add a discrete graphics card. What kind of budget do you have for both?

the case uses a very small form factor power supply called TFX power supplies. there very few units larger then 300w out there. If i was you I keep that pc as a web pc or donate it to a local library or senior center and take a donation credit on your taxes if you can. and build or buy a newer pc that uses a standard case and power supply.
with the micro case you all so have to buy the lower end low profile cards. if you had a stock case and power supply you could drop in a newer 750ti or and amd card without issue.

So would it be better to just buy a newer stock computer? I actually have a ATI Firepro HD Graphics V4800 stored atm and since it's not a low-profile gfx card, it doesn't fit in my computer plus it needs 300W. It's a workstation gfx card but I've played games on it before and it's still pretty decent.

And I'd like to spend around $150 or lower if I can just replace parts.

IMHO Building a computer from the scratch is always better than buying stock computers. You can just buy individual parts and put them together. That way you can select each part according to personal use and choice!
