im thinking of building a new pc in 2019.need advice.

my current pc has a r9 270x 2gb gpu 8gb of ddr3 ram and a amd fx 8350 cpu so not a lot of upgrade potential here. i was wondering if i should go for the highest end nvidia gpu there is next year. and all ssd storage? plus i5 or i7 cpu? and 16 or 32gb of ram? i plan to hook up to a 4k tv.

Given the uncertainty of things from now to 2019 it is hard to say. Your gpu choice will likely be ok. But given Intel's current cpu process issues that are leading them into a 2019 with an uncompetitive product lineup your cpu choice might not be the best. Given how close the 2600x and 2700x are to the 8600k and 8700k a perceptible 3600x and 3700x with extra clockspeed, cores, and clockspeed will leave intel in a bad position. Especially with no signs of a pending large core cannon lake based chip in sight. But we still have a year to go for real answers but Intel hasn't provided much in the way of confidence.

so what do you plan on doing that you currently can't do. Will a memory upgrade be enough.

Just remember that high end components will have a lot of fan noise that can get annoying. So unless you need the compute power, look for something that is noise friendly, but does what you want.

If it is for games then yes go for broke.

If you are going to build in 2019, then wait to see what is around.

For value consider an AMD solution. Honest truth is that few of us are going to notice the real world difference between any decent system. Once it is good enough, better makes little difference.

You will probably need both SSD and hdd if you have a lot of data/movie/music files, unless you have an unlimited budget.

Typically go for what your budget allows and what your intended use will be.

You should wait until 2019 to decide what to buy in 2019.

It’s all about balance, going 4K doesn’t mean you have to invest your system at 4 k. if that’s the case. you are likely to need more than 1 flagship gpu like sli 1080 or 1080ti or getting a Volta to handle 4K aaa title.

It’s going to cost $1500 to $3000 just for the graphics card, not too mention icostbof the new platform. Take the 1500, you can get a 8700 system with 1060 or the new 1160( hopeful next year) and enjoy high fps in 1080p gaming on the 4K tv.
