I'm trying to connect two monitors to my pc but it won't let me!

I have a custom built pc, and I have it connected to a monitor using the hdmi port. I don't have another hdmi port on my pc, so I'm trying to connect it to another monitor using a DVI to hdmi adapter. I plugged in the adapter and then connected the hdmi cord to both the adapter and the 2nd monitor, but my pc won't detect it. Does anyone know why? Thanks!

Try to press start buton + P. There are settings for dual monitor
