I can't find the service called "WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service" in Services. (I use Windows 7)

According to this post in Slashdot:

https://it.slashdot.org/story/16/08/13/0149241/disable-wpad-now-or-have-your-accounts-compromised-researchers-warn

one user says this:

"This should work for most users:

1. Uncheck “Automatically detect settings” of Local Area Network (LAN) Settings in Internet Options.

2. Disable the service “WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service” in Services...."

I have done the first point, but when I try to search for the service called "WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service" on Services, it doesn't appear.

It occurs to me that because I haven't set any option relative to WPAD, then, the service will not appear or start until I set something relative to WPAD, although I'm not sure of this. By other hand, I'm using Windows 7 in Spanish.

I said the latter because maybe the name has been translated, but all the searches on the net says to me that the name will be in english on all cases.

Many thanks for your time.

It's on my Windows 7 Pro system, WinHttpAutoProxySvc

If it's not on yours, then you don't have that service installed for some reason. How are you searching exactly? Just sorting by name or trying to search. If it's not in your Services list, why would you try to disable a non-running service? It's not there, it's not running, so what's the issue?

Hello, thanks for the response.

I use the control pannel -> Administrative Tools -> Services or also the search, and then, I type Services. After that, I hit the tab Name to sort the list and I look for it, but I can't see the service, so I was wondering if Microsoft translated the name of the service in spanish.

To answer your question, when I read on that Slashdot post that It's enabled by default on Windows, then I tought that the service you said, WinHttpAutoProxySvc, will appear on the list, but it was not; even people who haven't set any proxy settings have that service listed on Services, but not me, and so I wondered if this was normal.
