Normally DVI to HDMI carries only video. I have a GTX 260 graphics card and in my case my DVI to HDMI cable carries sound as well, i checked and found that there is a SPDIF sound output cable from my motherboard to my graphics card and therefore sound is also transferred through DVI-HDMI cable. Which graphics card model do you have ?
If your DVI to HDMI does not carry sound then other options for sound is optical ouput (if yr mother board or sound card supports it) or SPDIF out. Depends on your PC. More details will help.
