My desktop is a Pavilion p6-2143w. I found a google cashed copy of the specs here: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:esmgzxzxZkcJ:support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03349236+&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

I tried adding a Nvidia 730 with 2g ddr5 but was stuck at the blue hp screen saying press esc for startup menu, but esc did nothing. I'm hoping to not have to upgrade the power supply or anything, I just want a graphics card to play games on medium graphics. Right now I'm using half a gig of integrated graphics and can play most things fine with lower settings. Also, for future reference, how would I find if a graphics card is comparable or not?

Ok well it has a pci 2.0 slot, new graphics cards are pci 3.0 but they are backwards Compatable with pci 2 and 1 slots, so you should be able to put a new gpu in as long is it isn't too tall or long of course, as to why ur having these problems....

Have u tried reseating your graphics card and ram?

Also a GT 730 requires a 300w psu, but of a good quality, I bet your 300w is of low quality and this may cause problems.

He was running integrated graphics, so you dont need to uninstall any drivers. Sadly any graphics card worth getting requires a 300 w psu. Even if u have a low quality 300w psu it should still be able to handle a gt 730. Try installing the gt 730 in a different pc if you can and see if the gpu is faulty or return the gt 730 and try a new one

According to another help forum "[my] system was WIN7. It's current BIOS is 7.06. It will not run current UEFI VBIos cards." Does this make sense? How can I tell if a video card has UEFI or not?

A GT 720 requires almost nothing to be able to run it and would be somewhat of an upgrade from integrated graphics. It's nothing fancy, but can get the job done if not serious into games. If you get a 720 then make sure you get the 2gb DDR 5 version not the 1gb DDR3
