im upgrading from a 1st gen i7-920

i wanted to see if could pick up a Intel Core i7-4770K @ 3.50GHz but it has a different socket then what im currently using 🙁

soo.. i was thinking it would be a match up between these two .

Intel Intel Xeon E3-1270V3 Haswell 3.5GHz
and
Intel Core i7-4771 Haswell 3.5GHz

i really wouldnt know the difference between the two. if some one could clarify the differences for me, and maybe suggest another cpu that might be better, and that is around the same price

Save some money and go with a 1230v3. You will not notice a performance difference, except in benchmarks. In real world, 200mhz difference means little in a modern CPU, and isn't worth the added cost.

You really don't have to upgrade; the i7-920 still pops up near the top of most gaming benchmark charts. I really isn't worth the $350+ to get an extra 5-10 FPS at best.

im upgrading my gpu as well. and a few people down in the gpu forums suggest i should upgrade my cpu due to performance issues. (not using what i paid for)

but i think i will be getting the 1230v3 that logain suggested which is $250. which isnt so bad.
