I'm upgrading my PC. Should I keep Intel Core i5-2300?

I want to upgrade my PC. I use it for gaming mostly. These are the components I want to buy:

MSI H97M-G43
GeForce GTX 780 Ti 2GB DDR5
2x4 or 2x8 RAM (nothing specific yet)

The PSU I have for ~3 years is Chieftec CTG-500-80P 500W. Not sure how important that is.

Now, I have the Intel Core i5-2300 2.8GHz, overclocked to 3.1GHz. How relative this CPU will be over the following 1 or 2 years? Should I be able to run most of the new games that will come out?
The new CPU that I'm considering is Core i5-4460 @ 3.2GHz, but that seems too expensive, and I don't want to spend money on it unless I have to.

If I decide to upgrade the CPU, will I have to change the PSU?
Can I additionally overclock my i5-2300? 3.1 GHz is the maximum I can do in BIOS. If I can, will I need some better cooling for it?

I wouldn't bother with motherboard and cpu yet, if you are running an i5 2300. Does your current system have at least 8gigs of ram? If so, your fine.
It won't bottleneck you, see the chart in link below.

The Gtx 750 is a good card, there are better cards for the price. However, they draw more power.
the r9 280x for example.

Edit: 500 Watt psu is close to the low end, if it's a good PSU you should be fine. I don't know that brand though.

No, I have 2x2GB RAM.

I've just checked the PCPartPicker website, and for the R9 280x it says it requires 250 watts. My current GTS 450 requires 106. And the GTX 750 Ti requires only 60. Why that low? Is there any significant difference, or is it just a good feature of the GPU?

PSU is Chieftec, but 3 years old.

That is TDP, the cards power draw alone. I am talking about whole system.
If I was you I would get the cheapest r9 280x (That isn't XFX brand, they have had a lot of issues, google xfx 280x flicker)
Also upgrading to 8 gigs of ram would be a noticeable upgrade .
Do you have empty ram slots left?

But why GTX 750 draws so small amount of power? Only 60, compared to my old GTS 450 with 106W. Is it good or bad?

R9 280X goes well over my budget (it's 250€), but the R9 270 or Vapor-X R9 270X would fit in just well. Are those good?

Empty RAM slots are exactly what bothers me the most. I don't have any. Which means I can't just upgrade it, I would have to buy a new set and replace it, unfortunately.

750Ti is based on Nvidia Maxwell architecture. It is more efficient.
You can't get a 280x for 180? Pcpartslister uk says you can.

I would replace your ram with 2x4gb if i were you.
