Hello,
I attempted to install a newer version of Mac OS X an an iMac G3. The installer said that the software couldn't be installed. I hit the "restart" button, and the installer rebooted to a gray screen with a circle with a line through it. I tried booting again, but it gave me a question mark folder icon, then the circle with the line again. When I boot from the OS X Panther CD, I get the same icon. The only time I get something other than a gray circle is when I insert Disc 1 of a set of OS X Tiger CDs, but tiger isn't supported on the tray loading imacs.

Thanks in advance.

Solution
Could mean a bad format on the hard drive. Macs can be tricky, had a similar issue a while back. Do you have a Mac book or something?

I meant did you have a separate Mac book. I was going to say use the Ctrl+T with a Firewire method...but since you got it working, that's cool too 😉
