Hi guys quick question,

I’ve ordered an iMac 2017 i7 4.2 MHz now all Iam going to use it for is video editing and the internet, I use Final Cut Pro and I record in 4K using different angles so i have from 3 to 4 to sometimes 5, 2 hour long 4K videos at the same time in edit. my question is do I need 32 gb ram or is 16 enough

And if I choose 16 it will go up to 24 as I have already got 8 gb ram in it. And as for if I now get 24 will my iMac use all 24 or will it be limited to 16 as a few people have said that.

Thanks for the help

Solution
iMac i7 4.2GHz supports 4x16GB DDR4 2400MHz

I would suggest having 16GB as minimimum and 24GB or 32GB as the recommended. The rendering depends on the Radeon, while you will need the memory to process the 4K videos on the Final Cut. So best bet is to add 16GB with old 8GB
