All of a sudden my Intel Imac will not read audio cd's. It will read data cd's and dvd's but if I put an audio cd in to rip it to itunes, it will try to read it for about 30 - 45 seconds then spit it out. Any ideas?

As you likely know, you're not alone with this problem.

One trick you could try is to see whether or not an external USB optical drive will recognize and play the disks. If you don't have one handy you could purchase one from your local retailer, test this, and return it...if you wish.

Thanks for the tip, I actually tried an external drive yesterday ans the same thing happens. I also did see the discussion you pointed out. No one seems to know how to fix it. I'm just going to reinstall the OS and start from scratch and see if that works,

No, I don't have an old version of Itunes and all the research I've done, I've found this has been happening for a long times through different versions of the OS and Itunes. I have not found a resolution as of yet.

Have you gone to your Preferences -> CDs & DVDs and looked at what app the system is being told to use when you insert an audio CD? Set it to iTunes if it is not set to it already.
