Imation USB flash drive came write protected

Hi, my friend bought an 8GB Imation USB flash drive and it came with Imation Lock software. The software partitions part of the drive and secures it with a password. I was able to take a file out of the normal part of the drive (god knows how she got it on there in the first place) but I can't put files onto it.
I've tried formatting it through windows, through command prompt and software called KillDisk. It always says that it is write protected.
I tried various passwords but eventually it said it was going to format the drive and reset it. I thought this would be a good thing and I would be able to format the whole drive after it reset but it said it was write protected and couldn't do it.
I'm not even sure if it's the Imation Lock software that's making it write protected, especially as the software can't even format itself.
Does anybody have any ideas for how I can format the drive?

Well, I'm not exactly sure what I've done but I managed to disable the password on the Imation Lock.

(The password was 1234 for anybody who has the same problem. I think it let me back into the drive after I downloaded and ran http://support2.imation.com/downloads/imn/Flash/ImationLock_v231.exe from this page, https://support.imation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/141)

The size of the secured area is only 4MB while the rest of the drive is public. I still cannot copy files into the drive and I am still unable to format it. Is there any way I can force format it?

used a xbox 360 to format it formatted and remove it all write protect off imation lock is gone low tech but works and thats all that matters dont ask me why it works someone with xbox back ground mite know
