Hi all. This is my first crack at playing with Improved Irenicus. I
have killed everything I can find in Hell, and now nothing is
happening. To be specific, I've killed one each:

Black Dragon
Floating Blackrazor
Elder Orb
Wraith of Wrath
Jon Irenicus

Only took me one restart to get this far. But now, I'm just sitting
around, with no way out, twiddling my thumbs. The game won't let me
save or rest, saying that enemies are about. Well, I can't find any.
When Keldorn does Detect Evil, it says the Wraith of Wrath is
somewhere. But his body is still laying where Valgyar critical hit
backstabbed him for 186 damage (that was fun) and killed him one
stroke later.

I see posts that talk about Jon 2 & 3... am I supposed to do anything
to see them? I really just want to finish this thing and move on to
ToB, which I've never played... Any ideas?

Thanks,

Bill

I forgot to mention... I killed the shadows too. I searched Hell and
nothing is left alive. When I cast Detect Evil, it lists the Wraith
and its dead body glows. None of the other dead bodies glow. Weird.

I've still got the game running, hoping somebody can suggest something
to allow me to move on to the next fight.
Thanks!

The fights occur automatically so there's nothing you should have to
do to move the game along.

You could reload from the beginning and ctryl-y everything ( you
killed them fairly the first time!) and see if the game then progresses
as it should.

Do you have the console running?

Anyway, good luck and congrats on taking them out on your second try.

OK, I restarted from the beginning of the fight. Thank goodness I had
done a save after all my memorization and buffing prior to using the
last Tear! (Learned my lesson after the first reload.)

I didn't really want to do the Ctrl-Y thing, so I fought it out again.
That made me realize how fortunate I had been last time, as I got
smoked... Reload again. This time, after fine-tuning my tactics for
each enemy, I made it through, using the Rod of Ressurection to bring
back Keldorn and Sola mid-battle! Whew!

Jon 2 appears, and my luck returns... I get teleported buck naked down
to the south stairs and Jon the Slayer comes down to attack. I had 3
Skeleton Warriors ready to go in a sequencer... John comes down the
stair toward me and I fire off the sequencer right at him... and the
three skeletons arise around him, perfectly surrounding him and
pinning him against the wall! Jon is so intent on getting to me, that
he never attacks the skeletons! Unfortunately, they only hit him on
rolls of 20, but I'm in no hurry... Let's hear it for the long
duration of Animate Dead! Eventually they finish him off. Just like
I planned it. ;-)

Jon 3 appears, and I'm concerned, as the party is pretty spent from
the initial battle. I page through Jon's list of protections and my
nerves fray some more. I gulp hard and read off a Spell Strike scroll
I've been saving (I hope there's another one in ToB somewhere). My
fighters apply some Oils of Speed and move in. Keldorn uses his last
Dispel Magic, and Jon's defenses crumble. Whack, whack, whack, a
litle chasing, Death spell on a magic sword, one last Breach, whack,
whack, it's all over! I can't beleive it. Slightly anti-climatic,
but I don't care!

Anyway, it's such a fun fight, I just had to tell the story. On to
ToB...

Yeah, it's a challenging fight. My last time I made it through without
dying, and that's the only time I've accomplished that. The key for me
is to take the dragon out quickly - I had a time stop go into effect just
as it stuck it's snout into view - hoo ha, what perfect timing.

BTW, you don't have to kill the shadows to get to fights 2 & 3.
I don't know what happened on your original attempt.

As for ctrl-y - my game sometimes freezes when I kill Irenicus, so I
try to save him for last so that if it does crash or freeze I can ctrl-y
them all and feel good about it. I get a bonus of no potions or ammo
used and no dead or even wounded companions but that doesn't
even nearly make up for the aggravation of having to reboot!

Ha, then again, it sometimes crashes just as I'm facing a fairly certain
death.

Ooh, I never thought of something like this!

Of course!

I usually race back to my equipment stash and get the boots of speed
and quaff an oil of speed and then I'm a bit faster than Jon - run away,
shoot and similar acts of heroism follow until he finally dies. <g>

fireshields/pro from magical weapons help too.
(just in case you sometime fail to hem him in)

Good grief, don't you have Carsomyr?!

Yeah, the first fight is by far the toughest.

Do you have ascenscion?

Well, I sure never had it work that perfectly before!

I do, but it didn't seem very useful in the first fight. Nor did
Arrows of Dispelling. The only thing that seemd to work was Keldorn's
high-power Dispel Magic.

By the way, why did the text keep saying the Jon's aura was clensed.
Sounds like something Phoebe would to Ross on Friends.

Um, I thought I did. Was it supposed to kick in before the firt ToB
fight? As I mentioned before, I haven't played this far since the
unmodded SoA-only days, so I don't know what to expect.

Thanks,

Bill

Aura Cleansed means you can immediately start casting another spell,
instead of having to wait for the next round.

Did you install all the components? One of them changes the first ToB
fight.

The first ToB fight was agroup of 4-5 people coming after us in the
glade with the stone heads. Not too tough, after all we've been
through.

Do you have Item Upgrade installed?
I don't use the weapon/equip upgrades (I'm far too good, or
masochistic I guess, to want that <g>) but I do have it installed
because it tweaks Carsomyr so that it dispels stuff at a higher level - fix,
cheat - whatever - it's a ballyhooed enough weapon that it should actually
have a decent chance of dispelling things. Also, it fixes an annoying glitch
that messes up Carsomyr's magic resistance when it is combined with other
magic resistance items.

I don't think anything changes before the first fight.

The first time I faced Tougher Ilasera my group wiped her out in
about 20 seconds or so. I was preparing a crowing post in order to
brag about my accomplishment and then remembered that I actually
hadn't installed Ascension, just downloaded it. If you completely
walked all over her you probably don't have it installed- it is a fairly
tough fight, particularly the first time.

It also adds some nice changes to the game in addition to it making
some fights more challenging.
