I built my first computer about five months ago (g3258, 750 ti, Asus h81 plus, cx500, 8g ram). It was working beautifully until about a weekend ago , when it booted too a screen with some text on it for a couple of seconds.

I took a picture of the text and it said (at this time I was running an mis h81m-p33) that the overclock settings had failed and to press f2 to restore defaults (a couple of weeks ago I had turned on MSI OC genie). I mashed f2 at first and it didn't do anything. After doing this a couple times I searched for it on forums and tried to reset the BIOS by pulling the CMOS battery out for 10 seconds and putting it back in.

After this didn't help, I thought of it as an excuse to get a new motherboard upgrading from my tiny mATX one. So I bought the Asus H81 plus. After rebuilding the computer, I turned it on. An Asus logo came up, telling me to either press f2 or del to get to BIOS. After mashing this a couple times, then turning it off and on again and trying again, using different keyboards and different USB sockets, it still wouldn't get to BIOS.This is my first build, please help!

So you swapped out an mis h81m-p33 MB and replaced it with an ASUS h81 plus MB.

The first time you boot you get good video and a message that says "..either press f2 or del to get to BIOS. .." then the system hung.

You have a very short time to hit del to get into the BIOS then the PC will try to boot. Power off and on again. Then hit del repeatedly until you get into the BIOS. This should work. Post if it does not.

Next check for a CD in the optical drive, or something else that the PC might be trying to boot (a stray USB stick?). If the PC is trying to boot the hard drive and is hanging you could have problems with boot records which a windows repair/refresh will fix. But first use Del to get into BIOS and make sure...
