Hi!
Just built my first ever rig today with the help of a friend, I'm sure I will encounter more problems down the road (it's a miracle that it even booted up), but right now my Evga GTX980ti SC+ dual fans are not working.
After updating the Nvidia drivers and the monitor switched to the 980 as display, the GPU began to heat up rapidly (it got really hot after like 30 seconds! Like actually hot when you touch) , and the fans did not turn on. So I turned off the PC, and at the last few seconds the fans worked for 1 sec and then died again.
The next time I turned it on, the fans moved for 2 secs but then died again.
What could be the problem? I have put the 6+2 pin VGA cable on the left slot and the 8 pin VGA onto the right slot.
I'm using the Evga supernova 750w for PSU.

PS: yeah I know the cables are terribly placed (I could pass them through the holes on the side, but I didn't expect things to actually work lol so I will change them later).

Thanks so much!

The new card isn't the old card. Try manually setting and adjusting the GPU fans til ya feel ya have reached a safe temp. Don't like auto fan setting for graphics. CPUs are different. My machines are set that way. The X99 AMD guy has the GPU fans set at 55 %. Others differently. Never had a fan failure with GPUs. It is only a GPU.
Just us though:).

Thanks! Hopefully that's the case! However I'm worried because the GPU's temp rose up so fast and it was idle. I wasn't doing anything at all, just checking if all files are present, etc.

Thanks for your answer. I think so. The fans are spinning now after the GPU reaches 60C. However the temperatures on idle is still significantly higher than my last GPU. It starts at 35 and steadily rises with time when I'm only browsing the internet. My old GTX 960 would always remain at 25-27 when idle. Kinda worries me.

Download that, you can setup custom fan curves with it so the fan turns on sooner and you can set how fast the fan goes as the temp goes up.

Btw, if you look up idle temps for your gpu you'll see that those temps are normal for an evga gtx 980ti sc.

Also, do you have a monitor that runs at 144hz+? If so turn it down to 120hz, theres a bug with nvidia cards atm that when its set to anything higher then 120hz the card starts to draw power for no reason, setting it to 120hz or less stops the bug so while in idle or browsing the web the card will be idling and not drawing power for no reason.
