In game black screen with SLI

OS: windows 7 64bit ultimate 7601 sp1

i got my computer last week and downloaded the latest nvidia driver.

when on sli mode and im playing a game (it happens with several games, especially heavy ones) a bit while after some playing, a couple of minutes or so, the computer stops working, the monitor becomes black and all i can hear is the sound of the game.

if more details are needed, please just say so.

Reove one of the 560's, checking each card individually in game play for an hour each, then try both again, reseating SLI bridge, ensuring both cards are fully seated...

PSUs are only 'known good' until you experience problems with a relatively heavy load, and a pair of 560Ti cards might load down some PSUs, despite them being "SLI certified"....; your PSU might be 'browning out' under load....

I would be very intolerant of this if the PC is brand new and someone else built it.

Take that machine back and show them what it's doing. If necessary, return it while you can.

so in your opinion the problem might be the the psu? (if not one bad gpu?)

believe me i am that intolerant but they say that till id try to format and install a friends windows instead of mine to see if that isnt a bug problem then they wont check it themselves...

Just saying... The way a company handles issues can help us all make informed decisions. Many times, companies will push as much as they can onto the consumer and try to relinquish themselves of as much accountability as possible. I guess, as a consumer I'm an advocate for holding companies accountable.

I had an issue like this by which I added a video card to create a crossfire setup and a bad video card was the culprit. Other indicators included boot issues and blue screens.

That being said...
Are you attempting to play older games? The reason I ask is I have occasional issues with Battlefield 1942 just quitting on my new machines with Win 7 64-bit even though any newer game runs without fail on these machines. On the other hand, when I run Battlefield 1942 on my old Pentium IV XP Pro 32-bit setup, it runs fine.

unfortunately i did not try to play an older games, the oldest is BF2 which i didnt play that much since i got my computer, i could try find my Anthology box and maybe give it a go.
the newest is BC2 and with SLI mode it crashes and with no SLI mode on it works perfectly.
ive tried playin Prototype and it works significantly longer than BC2 but it crashes also eventually.
i now play Battlefield4free without any problems but i dont think thats an indication...

in my opinion the problem may occur because of a windows 7 bug (XP is the best ever.) or a psu malfunction/a poor provision.

i hope ill get it sorted soon.. as you said its not that fun getting those issues with a brand new computer.

I think the issue with Battlefield 1942 is that it was not made for a 64-bit environment.

I think Windows 7 is a great OS personally. I think Vista was the ugly in-between stage.

I am running BC2 without fail in Windows 7 64-bit. I don't think that's your issue. It's up to you, but if you want to re-install the OS and all the updates and re-install all your drivers, I think you'll run into the same problems.

Issues like that are almost always hardware related. I'd be willing to bet one or both of your video cards has an issue or your power supply has an issue since this issue only happens during gaming (high power draw + high demand on the GPUs).

i really dont want to reinstall everything but ive got to try everything...

ive tried working with the screen connected to each gpu at a separate time with no SLI mode on, i did it to see if each card responding well as should, and it did.

its that complicated im afraid

Try this... (saw this once in one of the forums)

Move the SLI bridge to the other set of connectors. If the bridge is currently on the rear connectors (toward the back of the PC) move it to the front connectors. Boot and enable SLI again.

well id to that too 😉



so guys, first of all thank you very much for helping me! i really appreciate that. heres the solution, the steps i wanted to take are:
1. i wanted to try format and install a different version of the windows to make sure its not a bug or bad driver issue.
2. i wanted to try and replace my current psu for a while with a friends stronger one in order to confirm whether its a voltage issue.
3. i wanted to remove both gpus and connect and work with each one at the time to confirm whether its a damaged card issue.

all of them were wrong.
fortunately, i discovered that early, as i contacted the computer store and told them im going to try those things and if it wouldnt work i will get my computer over there for them to figure it out. after a couple of minutes a dude called me and said that he is the store technician (every pc place has their own know-it-all dude and he was theirs) and asked me to describe the problems and after i did he concluded its a too much OC issue and told me how to fix it by downloading some kind of OC control panel software.

btw, i bought the limited edition of the GTX560TI thats called "super over clocked edition", it turned out Gigabyte just wanted to show they can make a gpu with 950oc, this problem is known within the company about those cards. crazy people there.
