I have a problem with san andreas graphics, which is now a prob with all my games. After a while of playing the graphics become 'stringy' and appear to have holes in them. i have a 256 GeForce 6600 and 512mb RAM 2.5 Ghz processor and pentium 4. I've installed the latest graphic card drivers from Nvidia, which didn't seem to help, but did delay the time it took for the graphics to mess up. Restarting my pc also puts the graphics back to normal, but simply quitting and restarting the game does not work.

If anyone could shed any light it would be much appreciated

cheers

i've tried blasting cold air in from an outside fan but it had no effect. the graphics card also has its own fan. Is ther anything else you can think of?

Artefacts are normally an indication that the card is overheating. Are you overclocking it?

Also how long has that card been in your system. Open the case and see if it (the HSF of the card) is full of dust. A handheld vacuum should help with that. Otherwise it’s just “remove and blow” :)

Did you have an ATI card in before this? Could be due to old drivers not being uninstalled all the way. Any onboard graphics? If so make sure its disabled in the bios.
Might try going back to the origional drivers off the cd to see if anything changes.
Try uninstalling the card in windows, remove the drivers, shut down the computer and reseat the card in the slot. Reboot and reinstall drivers, starting with the origionals and going up one version at a time. Will take longer but will help determine if its driver related.

the card hasn't been in that long an i checked for dust an there was none there.

Yeah i did have an ati 7500 that came with the pc, but it wasn't an onboard one. The drivers were installed one by one, but i never uninstalled the ATI drivers. How can i un-install them without having to un-install and re-install the radeon ones?

try looking in the add/remove programs if not there then look for the ati utility on the net using google that will take them off. Sorry I dont have links right now.

Hey strum cheers for your help mate. I've looked around and apparently ATI drivers are very difficult to remove. I have found a tool on the ATI site wich removes all ATI related software from your system, this should do the trick! For any others that might be interested it's called
cat-uninstaller.exe ATI will not allow you to make a direct link so just go on the site and search it. Thanks again. I have not time to try it right now, but will try it this afternoon and tell ya how it went, cheers

hey, i used the cleaner from ati and another pro cleaner and uninstalled the my nvidia drivers and reinstalled them. It made no difference. I've also got fan speed and my temp is 26! what else can i do???

If 26 is the correct temp then your problem is with that.
What wattage power supply do you have?
Is the power connection going to the video card connected securely?
Try a different power connection to the graphics card.

If your low on wattage you could try a different power supply and see if that helps.

yes that is the correct temp as far as i know. Is that too hot or too cold? -sorry if thats silly question. When i first got the card i broke it cos the power supply was too low so i had it replaced and got a power supply that wud do the business. Yeah i have tried another power connection and that didn't help. I have bought a fan off ebay about a week ago to see if it was too hot, but that hasn't arrived yet and they said it would be 1-2 weeks postage.

well i installed my new fan and my cpu now runs at 37 which is quite odd as i thought fans are spose to cool down, but it seems never the less to have solved my problems i think. I will try it out properly tomorrow. Cheers anyway :) will post back to how it goes

my cpu temp is now around 30-38 and i still have the problem with the graphics although maybe slightly improved. Can anyone suggest anything i can do with my above specs. Thanks.

The temperatures you mentio sound absolutely fine.
The only thing I could suggest is:

- Take the card out. Blow any dust away and reseat the card.
- Try the card in a different PC

... could be the card is broken. Is it still under warranty ?

i'll try taking the card out see what happens. I might also update my motherboard drivers as i discovered they were 5 years old. It might help i'm not sure

Yep you are on the right track. However, I have to say that it's probably the card that's failing... lately I have seen alot of cards that just fade away gradually.

yeah i cant think of anything else now, im gna buy the latest geforce in the 7000 series can buy it £190 in the usa including p&p so im gna go for that
