I have recently bought a 1060 6gb . And a 4k lgtv for watching 4kmovies with hdr and stuff maybe some light 4k gaming .
Now the thing is that when i switch to 1080p in games from 4k or even 1200p the damn image quality turns weird, its like edge enhancement and sharpening with darker outlines . Its bad very bad to look at when you're playing games like the witcher 3 . I would show you with screen shots but it seems like the screenshots turn out okay and only in game graphics suffer and i have to difference in mage quality in screenshots from fraps when compared to for example some 4k screen shots of the same thing.
This makes me want to guess that the lg tv set that i have is making some changes to the gaming experience . I also have put the tv on game mode so that input lag doesn't occur. I've tried everything from rolling back drivers to going through all tv settings .
Now im gonna try to reinstall windows if you bros can't help me out here . I hope it doesn't come to that i'll have to back up a lot of shit and it'll take a lot of time as well and it just might not work too . I'm really in a bad spot here, any help would be appreciated .

I assume you're on W10?

Since changing to W10 from W7, I've noticed a LOT of problems when scaling down to a lower res than native. I was using 1600x900 for desktop and the native 1080p for most games, but it would not let me choose 60Hz. At first it kept setting Hz to 59, and now it's actually setting it to 30 interlaced.

This is with GPU scaling vs display scaling in Radeon Panel settings too, because for some time now, the AMD drivers have broken display scaling. This is the case for many people, and there's a thread about it on AMD's support forums.

So my problem scaling wise is two fold. Both MS and AMD have messed up scaling. I am now using 1080p for desktop res with fonts set to 125%, and all fonts sized to 10 with Bold. It's just adequate enough for desktop and browsers, but this has kinda put my search for a 4K TV on hold. I was planning on doing same as you, using something like 1440p for newer games that can't play at 60 FPS in 4K, and running desktop at 1080p, but I don't want to risk having scaling issues that can't be fixed, because I have to be able to read desktop fonts.

Many have complained about W10 making text blurry with high DPI settings too. I'm leaning toward Nvidia for my next GPU, because AMD can't ever seem to get their drivers or software sorted. Even their new ReLive capture tool (similar to Nvidia's ShadowPlay), uses MOV, so there's not many compatible video editors.

I may end up switching back to W7 until it's End of Life in 2020. By then hopefully MS will have fixed scaling in W10, or W11 will be released, and have better scaling.

Anyways, sorry for the lengthy rant, but scaling itself could be partly your problem. Only other advice I can give other than checking for scaling issues, is make sure all the unnecessary filters in your TV settings are off. A good place to compare notes with others whom might have a similar or same model TV, is on the AVS forum.

Frag maniac. I don't think this problem occurs only when using amd cards. I've got Samsung 4k TV samsung ue50ku6000. And gtx 1070 and I've got the same things happening to me. It's not really a big problem to me as adjusting the picture in TV settings solves the issues. But yes, while in UHD resolution the game looks much much more brighter than it is in 1080p. I wish I could find one simple explanation why this happens..
