Hi, two days ago i started experiencing issues with very high internet connection performance such as 200+ ms, in overwatch and other games. I also saw that my network was being utilized at 0% while playing.
Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5 6500 @3.2GHZ

GPU: GTX 1060 6GB strix

Ram: 16GB

Help would be much appreciated! :)

There could be a number of things that cause slowness on a network. I would plug your PC directly into the modem, not the router. If it works normally or faster than normal, then there is a setting you need to change in your router, your router sucks in performance, or you have bad/damaged hardware.

If you plug into the modem directly and the internet speeds still sucks, then you need to contact your ISP to see if there is an outage , see if they can tell you whether or not you are losing connection (losing packets), or you just need to check to make sure...

- If you use Windows 8, 8.1, or 10, you need to make sure that your background applications are either turned off all the time or you disable them when you want to game. This should help with CPU usage and the amount of network usage you have going currently.

- Make sure that there are no updates happening while you game. It is convenient to play while updating, so that you don't have to wait, but it will really bog your network down and keep your CPU usage up as well.

- Ensure that all of you driver and system updates are up-to-date and are installed.

- Online games, like Blizzard branded ones, can use a decent percent of your network bandwidth depending on the amount you have. If you have a higher percent used while all of your background applications are turned off, then you might want to either look into better hardware or better internet services (this should be a last resort for your issue). Before determining if this is the right move, make sure you know how many devices are running on your network at any given time and what they do at those times. This can have a major affect if you have someone downloading, gaming, or streaming on the network while you are gaming yourself.

Thank you for your very quick response, i have just been looking at my CPU performance and it has gone back to normal, however my network is at 0% while playing, is that normal? I also did a speed check and everything is working fine at normal speeds. All my drivers are up to date except Geforce Experience since i had FPS performance problems last time i updated it so i rolled back.

Depending on what your foreground and background processes are doing, your CPU performance and network performance can vary. Fortunately, there doesn't seem to be an issue at the moment, so just keep an eye on it. If it sky rockets again, just make sure to close out of all unimportant programs. Also, make sure that you reboot to make sure everything is properly in place.

What about my internet connection, it is still running awfully, should i wait it outr and test it later? Or do you think that there is a problem that could be fixed right now?

If you plug into the modem directly and the internet speeds still sucks, then you need to contact your ISP to see if there is an outage , see if they can tell you whether or not you are losing connection (losing packets), or you just need to check to make sure your LAN ports or Wifi card/USB is working properly. If you are using a USB adapter, get rid of it and plug into your network with a cable or get a PCI/PCI-E network Wifi card. Another possible issue is that your network cables, your CAT5E, CAT6, or CAT7 cables, can be damaged since they're very frail. I had a bad CAT7 cable shipped to me and caused me connectivity issues till I switched it out for another that was just fine.

Thank you very much for your responses, i have checked with other devices on the internet and they are also experiencing bad connection. I'm going to leave it for today and see if it resolves overnight, if not i will look into some of your suggestions. Once again thank you very much!
