Hi everyone,

I recently bought a RTX 3050. It is paired with a i7-7700, 16GB RAM DDR4 @2133mhz, 650watts Corsair PSU, Maximus VIII Ranger.

However, it seems not to perform well.

Indeed, in PUBG on low settings at 1080p (except high textures / medium view distance), I have approx. 120-175 fps whilst the following benchmarking video shows that I should obtain 200+ fps easily :

I think that my CPU is damaged because it recently went pretty hot (90°C+) during like a month or two, because of my broken box ventirad. I knew it while I had downloaded CPU-Z + I got errors such as "CPU Over temperature error", "CPU fan speed error detected" .

So, I decided to buy a used air cooling which works very well and made the errors disappear (my CPU won't go higher than 60°C), however the performance issues that I'm facing led me to think about this possibility...

I already tried to reinstall the game, the drivers (thanks to DDU), update my BIOS (I went on a previous version because of the issues I was facing with my ventirad, but I re-updated it because it needs the latest version to run Z270 cpus well - this enhanced my perf from 80 fps to 120 though...)

What do you guys think ? Thank you for your reply !

I already posted the same message on the french version of Tom's Hardware (btw sorry for my english). They think that it is whether either bottlenecking issues, the voltage of my RAM, or the one of my PSU.

Why would you get identical FPS? The video you linked has a much better CPU (faster per clock, more cores) and faster RAM.

It's also unlikely your CPU is damaged. A damaged CPU won't just run a bit slower.

If you want to isolate issues, run actual benchmarks. Simply comparing FPS from random sections of a game in your PC to FPS from random sections of a game in a very different PC is not a very good way to diagnose a problem.

Yes I know for sure that he has a better CPU, however I do not understand how big is the difference between his computer and mine.

I ran benchmarks on PUBG (settings above + DX11), here are the differents situations :

1st (when landing) : https://ibb.co/RPhXhk1

2nd (when looking at cities) : https://ibb.co/TrW7XWc

3rd (in buildings) : https://ibb.co/GQVRW3C

My fps are worse than I told it in the first post. There are the FPS + the CPU & GPU usage on the top-left corner.

About 40% faster single core performance with the 5900X processor in that video so your right where you should be 40% less FPS.

Thanks, and what is the best way to do so?
You don't have a problem just like I said.
The performance can change some with game updates but this is with a i7 7700 and a gtx 1070 that is a bit better than your card.

FPS drops are a normal part of gaming!

EDIT what CPU cooler are you using I hope not the stock one as it could limit your boost some. Also the slow memory is a bit of a handicap.
Run this benchmark and post a link to the results. https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/ (with all other programs and web pages closed)

gpu usage wont go higher, your CPU is bottleneck
you can increase resolution or game details, that way you wont loose FPS and game will look a bit better
if youre in need of higher FPS, then you might consider replacing your CPU with a faster one

Even though with the screenshots I just send ? It seems just... I sometimes get 75 fps... But you're surely right
I get 85 FPS with a 12700k and 3070Ti in certain games and situations, 1440p, when I'm at a steady (locked) 143 FPS in the same game normally. That doesn't mean anything. FPS drops from the CPU happen when too many objects need to be calculated.

Your CPU is simply not very good by today's standards anymore. Both core counts and IPS literally doubled, someyimes trippled, in the past 6 years. As others said, your FPS are about 40%worse than the CPU with 40% better performance. That's fine. Your userbench is also okay, and honestly, you got enough FPS anyways. I see no issues.
