In-game Stuttering Related To Sound.

Big wall of text, please bear with me. (TLDR down below as well)

I have been experiencing difficulties with my hardware regarding stuttering issues since a long time ago (since 2015, I believe).

I've tried many things in order to fix them. I've tried commands and solutions that I found either on fps guides or on other threads.

Those commands, however, were tackling different problems that were coming from other parts of the hardware, and even software such as:

- **HDD problems**

ex: Defragging, cl_forcepreload 1, or getting an SSD and having the game on that instead

- **GPU and FPS problems**

ex: Rolling back to older drivers, disabling vSync, nVidia Inspector, and even commands for increasing fps such as r_dynamic 0, messing with the video settings, resolutions(trying them both stretched and on black-bars) and everything else

- **CPU problems**

ex: Making sure that the CPU wasn't overheating, which is impossible, since it doesn't go past 58-60 degrees Celsius, even when I'm in-game

ex: Turning off CSTATES in bios, or setting the power options plan to “High Performance”

ex: unparking cores(which made it worse, since all my cores were already active and working), disabling/enabling multicore rendering

- **Overall Performance**

ex: Cleaning the PC in and out in order to get rid of the dust

- **Hardware Changes**

ex: Getting a new PC, getting a new 144Hz monitor, getting an SSD, getting and trying USB-port headphones(since I heard they come with their own sound drivers).

- **Software**

ex: Getting special software that was to help increase the performance of my PC, from game-boosters to CPU software

ex: Messing with DPC latency and other registry keys that were regarding HPET (safely, and with a registry back-up, of course)

But none of them EVER came even close to solving the problem.

The single fix I have found to this day that completely gets rid of this problem is turning the volume down to 0. That’s right.
No sound in-game = stutter-free gameplay.

I have recently noticed that lowering the volume down to minimum from my headset also has a similar effect. So I can only come to the conclusion that my game stutters only when receiving sound.

This problem is especially frustrating when mid spray, where my game stutters and completely ruins the recoil control, or when someone peeks and I seem to stutter or rubber-band a bit and it makes me lose the fight.

I have tried many other fixes for problems regarding sound as well, from updating my sound drivers and disabling the nVidia HD Audio Driver, to console commands ranging from snd_mixahead (tried everything here, from 0.01 to 0.1 and even went further than that to see what I can do) to snd_mix_async “1”/”0”. But this was, yet again, without any real results.

I know for a fact it’s not an internet issue, since it happens both online and offline with bots. The quick workaround of turning the volume down to “0” works both in offline and online gameplay as well, but I can’t just play like that(for obvious reasons).

So what do you guys think it might be? I can’t even describe the state of confusion that I’m in because of what’s happening here. Is there actually an easy fix and am I just missing something? I have got no clue.
Hope you guys can lend me a hand here if you know what could be going on. Thank you very much in advance.

**TLDR**: I’ve got stuttering issues and nothing I try seems to fix it but one thing, and that is lowering my volume down to “0”. That’s it. No sound = stutter-free gameplay. So what does that even mean and what can I do to fix this problem without actually having to play without sound?

Here’s a great post where I took some ideas from, especially the one with mid-spraying and peeking, since it’s exactly what’s happening to me as well. Tried fixes from this thread as well, but still no results: https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/6mldl4/found_a_fix_for_anyone_that_may_be_experiencing/

Solution
If it is what i believe you are saying It is generally known as 'recoil stutter/lag...' then many of us have been there, some of us have moved home 7 times, i am currently on my 3rd high end build.
I have 2 systems side by side and rent server for a year testing this issue with a family member on one account ( yes i bought two pc's and a server and 2 accounts for the game) and testing day n night. Swapping components, changing drivers applying every known usual stutter fix in every order or random order over n over, reinstalling windows all of us have been trying these things.
There are forums such as on nvidia where people are keeping in touch with each other and reporting any new findings.
I don't know how long you are having this...
I would delete all your partitions, and start over with a clean/fresh install from a newly created WIndows media freshly downloaded from Microsoft....

Beforehand, default/reset your BIOS back to factory defaults...

Install all chipset driver packages appropriate for your motherboard, and then the correct Nvidia driver set.

Be sure all WIndows updates downlaoded/applied before gauging performance!

(FYI, 8 GB of RAM is now considered semi-marginal on a handful of games that is growing each day....; if you are only running a single stick, your memory bandwidth is cut in half by virtue of running it only single channel access...

Try another SSD, or, have a friend verify operation of your GPU in their rig....borrow 2 sticks of known good RAM (set XMP to appropriate 2666-3200 MHz speeds, as approriate for your mem)to rule out RAM...

While all of your information is incredibly helpful, I have to say that it wouldn't help with the problem at hand.

What you mentioned software-wise I have already tried, but I will make sure to remember the RAM tip that you gave me. However, I believe that what is wrong here is the sound, because that's the only thing that can explain the sudden quick fix that is turning my volume down to 0.

I think that maybe purchasing a dedicated sound card would solve the problem? I heard that on-board sound is really bad and messes up how things are processed. And if so, then which sound card would be good for my build and are there any specific sound cards that I need to be aware of?

I don't know how long you are having this issue for but i can say you will not find a solution for it most likely, you will only find advices which you know you have tried 100's of times till you spend fortunes, move home, and for many destroy their life. Advice for in the meantime: stay connected in forums for e.g. nvidia under the title "mouse lag is killing me" but also TRY and find a new game that will work well for you, just wouldn't like to see you go down a long road that costs you alot, believe me i know what you are going through, but you could never imagine how much worse it can get over time, assuming you are new to this. Since CS.1.6 this issue has not been solved and most feel it never will partly due to the fact that it doesn't get much attention as it is not noticeable by many and can get interpreted by a listener as "bad aim" or general stutter
Grounding in home looks like a popular cause, but hey like i said there are many who have tried moving home.

All the best m8 cya :)

Solution
First of all, thank you for taking the time to tell me all of that, I appreciate it.
But I think I found ways to at least make it a bit better.

So this is a late update but here's two more things that I did and have helped me so far:
- Disabling onboard sound from bios (I got USB headphones now)
- Enabling my integrated CPU graphics and downloading the driver for them (not using the integrated graphics, just enabled them)

Here's a really useful topic:
