In need of a temporary card

Hello,

I've been building my computer and I'm nearing completion, although the graphics card I was looking at has a price of $200+, which will delay me by a few months.

I'm looking for one to use while I save up for the $200, keeping in mind I have no job yet. The price must be below $100, I'd prefer if it was 0 - 70. Right now I only play Minecraft, I can deal with being able to only play that until I get the newer and pricier card.

The processor is a 8320, mobo is Asus M5A97 R2.0 and the case is a Corsair 200R.

easier to ask someone to just GIVE you an old old card. sadly, I threw out my 9400GT to the local electronics recycling place last week.

NCIX.ca has some Zotac GTS450 (mismarked as GTX450) for around $50 which would be cheaper and could be used to drive 2 screens down the road for a 3-monitor setup (with your REAL card driving the main screen)

It's old, but minecraft is basically all CPU anyway, and it's only 50 bucks, so you can just save the rest and get what you want later. There's no sense dumping more into a temporary card than you absolutely have to, and this one would even play a lot of games, especially older stuff at lower detail settings, as well as pretty much all of the other indie games, so you could at least get started.

I didn't see that he was in canada, but yeah, your card recommendation would be faster and follows the same idea.

Get a motherboard with "on-board" graphics and play off that for a bit... (I don't know Minecraft but if it's light weight this might do...)

It's so much cheaper that the MB you select, you might have enough for that GPU up front....

Zotac 9600 GSO, still capable of some gaming nowadays at $30 (40 or so after shipping)

It's an old card, but I wouldn't bother with anything more expensive, it's still more powerful than the GT 630 (just higher power consumption and only dx10)

Even gave the sites/stores that I can buy from. Also $100 is just the absolute max. I'd prefer if it was low.

Canada computers should still have some Asus GT610 kicking around for something like $35 after rebate. It's a 1GB Silent (no fan, just a fat heat sink). I use one to pipe movies to my TV. Can run dual monitors later on if you want it to.

Oh, one thing / note of caution. Some of these older cards might not support UEFI BIOS which might mean you're flying blind until Windows loads. If you get the Asus graphics card, there's apparently a way around it with your Asus board, but if you get a Zotac or Sapphire you may have less options. Just something to keep in mind.
