I recently built a PC with these components:

Motherboard: Asus H81M - PLUS
Graphics card: Nvidia GTX 970
CPU: Intel i7 4790k
Case: Corsair Carbide Series Spec - 03
Hard disk: Seagate 1TB
CPU Fan: Cooler Master Hyper T4
PSU: Cooler Master G650M 650W

I have connected it all and the motherboard LED and GPU LED come on but the system wont turn on, I'm not sure if I have done something wrong or anything, I would really appreciate any help anyone can give. Thank you.

Maybe the BIOS issue like bignastyid said. Here is the cpu support list http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H81MPLUS/HelpDesk_CPU/ you need the 2001 version for the i7 4790k, and it was released on 6/2014.

And you can use the S/N to check the manufactured date of the MB to see which version BIOS is on it.
From the ASUS: 1st digit--Year Manufactured (last digit of the year), 2nd digit---Month Manufactured (1-9, A-C) http://www.service.asus.com/#!motherboard-serial/cqt6

If your MB was made after 6/2014, it should have the newer version bios for the i7 479k, otherwise the MB will not support i7 4790K until you update the BIOS to at least 2001 version. In this case you need other compatible cpu to update the BIOS, then switch the cpu. So you are better to buy other Z97 MB for the i7 4790K, or H97 if you don't want to OC the i7.

If it is not the BIOS issue, try to troubleshooting ideas http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems
