I recently installed a new HDD and some new memory in my desktop and it is now freezing up on me consistently. It usually occurs in game although once whilst I was on the desktop but running a few things simultaneously. In addition I also downloaded and installed Star wars battle front and it was particularly bad during playing this (every five minutes). I have deleted the game but it keeps happening. The screen will freeze and the speakers a horrible loud crackling sound (which I think may be it looping). I have to resort to the reset button. I ran a memtest but it identified no issues. I am only using the new HDD to save media on which I am not playing although I have been downloading in the background (never and issue before). I have not seen the temp on my graphics card to above 51 degrees, albeit I can't seem to find an easy way to monitor my CPU temp. I am a bit stuck as to whether this a hardware, software or cooling issue? any ideas?

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3
CPU: AMD FX 6300 6 core 3Ghz
Memory: 16GB Corsair Sport DDR3 1600
Graphics card: Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB DDR5
Drives: Samsung BD DVD (not worked since windows 8)
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200 rpm SATA3 (new) (media)
Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA2 (main drive)
PSU: Corsair CX 750

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there ASavage,

You can test both your drives with a brand specific testing tool. If there is something wrong with the any of the drives, you need to back up the data stored on the drive.
Another thing you can try is to boot up your system with only one RAM stick attached. Similar freezes could be caused by faulty RAM.
