In Windows 7, my Blu Ray Drive can no longer play DVD but can play Blue Ray and CD

When I put a DVD in the drive, and want to see its content in Windows Explorer, Explorer freezes and I have to kill it with Task Manager. A Restore to an earlier point (before issue happens) didn't fix the problem. Can someone have idea to fix that.

Blu-ray, DVD, and CD all use different wavelength lasers (in the case of DL Bu-ray, multiple lasers). So it sounds like the laser used for reading DVDs in this drive is acting up, while the lasers used for CD and Blu-ray are just fine.

RMA the drive if it's under warranty, replace it with a new one if it's not. Or live with it since you've found a way to get the DVD laser temporarily working again.

To rule out a software issue, I'd try creating a Linux live CD/USB. Boot off of that. Then see if it has the same problem reading DVDs.
