This Topic is almost the same as another posted earlier. So here is my same answer to both:

Here's my dream computer.
It'll be a laptop, not a desktop...

Dude, a Teraflop is a trillion FLOPS. A trillion is 1,000,000,000,000. You wrote 1,000,000 (1 million, big difference!)

Well here's <A HREF="http://www.anandtech.com/mysystemrig.html?rigid=5092" target="_new">mine.</A>

I would have to update a couple of things to bring it to full "god box" status. Mainly, replace the RAID card with a 128MB Adaptec 3200S, up the DVD to 16x, up the CD-RW to 16/10/32, up the speakers to ProMedia 4.2's, up the sound to SBLive! 5.1, and up the video to a QuadroDCC (GeForce3). The thing could use a kernel update as well, I suppose, but not that badly. Not sure what printer I'd get though...

I'd also have to b!tch at my local phone service until they get some real DSL-capable phone lines in here. Or just get a T3 or the like.

I personally can't wait for a workable dual Palomino...

This topic is base on todays tech, and remember it MUST FIT ON YOUR DESK!!!!!)

All i want to know is what comp would you built if all the piece in the world would be compatible and that you would have like 20 000$$ to spend on it ( no futuristic cpu or unrealizable project like "the bleu-gem")

"Sweath Dreams" ;o)

ok
favorite components...
Athlon 1.4 x2(available later today?)
dual proc 815 board(read about it a few months ago)
512megs pc133
geforce 3(not upgrading it soon)
big ass IBM ata100 drive x2(extra space = good)
soundblaster 128 or later(don't care)
dvdish drive
plextor cdrw + plextor cdrom (bit for bit copies)
3com 10/100
18 inch flat panel
or...
newer Dell inspiron 8000
PIII 1Ghz
Geforce 2go 32meg
512megs
32gig
dvd
cdrw
3com 10/100
56k
15inch UXGA tft
dual 54whr batteries.
I suppose either would do for now.
this isn't the best I can come up with, its realistically what I'm thinking of right now...
I wish there were a socket A to 370 adapter... alas, t'is not...

no s<b></b>hit sherlock.
the only stipulation he had was the memory must be compatible with the motherboard.
and I chose my favorite COMPONENTS.
DREAM COMPUTER?

Well, in that case, my tiny dual-PPro fileserver benchmarks better than your dream comp, merely because mine will actually POST!

it didn't show the smiley on the email notification...
I was about to be reeeeal rude...
anyways, Keeper said the only catch was the memory and motherboard had to work together.
dream computer would involve a socket 370 Athlon...
