So after getting yet another windows update my Samsun SSD gives a messge that rapid mode is no longer comptible or something. It says to uninstall and reinstall it so thats what I do.

Now when booting my computer gives me the message "Your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart.. something something something you can search for INNACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE"

It tries to restart again and then goes to a screen saying "Your pc couldnt start properly... after mutiple tries the operating system on your pc failed to start so it needs to be repaired". Then something about needing recovery tools and a few other things.

Then there are three options, one of which is startup settings (other options are UEFI firmware settinga or use a different plerating system). So i go to startup settings and the options are:

1 enable debugging
2 enable boot logging
3 enable low resolution video
4 enable safe mode
5 enable safe mode with networking
6 enable safe mode with command prompt
7 disable driver signature enforcement
8 disable earlt launch anti malware protection
9 disable automatic restart after failure

Only thing Ive tried so far is 4 which just brings me back to the inaccessible boot device page. Ive read that safe mode works for some people but its not working for me. Ive also read that disconnecting my other hard drive may work if my computer is trying to boot from there. Id rather not do that because its very annoying to get to. Should that be my next step or is there something else I coud try?

Thank you very much for any help.

I'm not sure how to access system restore... where is that option? Also it wont wipe my data or anything?

Alright so after reading around a bit what I have to do is create installation media for windows 10 on a usb drive and use that to boot windows? This wont screw up or overwrite what i currently have in windows?

Ok so Im trying that. When I press system restore i get the message "To use system restore you must specify which windows installation to restore. Restart this computer, select an operating system, and then select system restore"

Im not sure what I need to do...

Then do that. Choose windows installation, you want to restore (if you have multiple OS installed).
Can you post screenshot of that message?

Alright for some reason the original screen that would come up upon restarting is now gone, so I dont have the option to go to startup settings.

Im posting a screenshot of the first screen that comes up. From there I press esc for UEFI settings and then f11 for system recovery. Then I do the rest of the steps to do a reboot and get the message about the windows installation to restore (also included screenshot).

Where is the option to choose the window installation to restore? I dont see anything like that anywhere. Sorry Im totally lost on this.

This is the advanced option menu

Also I dont know if any of this matter but these are the boot options in the BIOS settings

It doesn't look like you booted from windows installation media.
But ok, you can probably fix it either way.

BCD store of your pc is busted and needs repairing.

Go back to this screen and choose command prompt:

Execute these commands, it will give list of available partitions and associated drive letters:
  • diskpart
    list volume
    exit
Then execute this command to fix bcd store (replace X with drive letter of windows partition):
  • bcdboot X:\windows

No I didnt boot from windows installation media cause I didnt understand how. I have to create a usb with the correct version of windows and boot from there? I guess I should try that because the above didnt work. Heres a screenshot.

Edit: since I dont know what Im doing I also tried it for d, e, and f but none of those worked either

Thank you very much for your help so far.

Ok, I see the source of confusion. You have multiple drives and multiple OS installed. Are both windows 10 ?

Guessing - 1TB HDD was there initially with windows 7 or 8 (upgraded to windows 10?),
later 250GB SSD has been added to the system and contents of HDD cloned to SSD.
In result you have not only 2 windows partitions but also 2 UEFI system partitions and this usually confuses the hell out of boot recovery process.

Remove old 1TB HDD from the system and perform recovery operations in my previous post.

Yes I think the old HDD was upgraded to windows 10 at some point. I cloned it and then copied windows to the new SSD. Im pretty sure I wiped the old HDD and erased windows from it before using installing it as a backup hard drive.

Anyway I just tried removing the old hdd and now unfortunately I cant access system recovery anymore, so I cant get to command prompt. Ugh...

Put it back in and can access system recovery again

Alright i made a usb with windows installation media. Then i go to device boot options and choose the usb. Then it takes me to a windows fresh install. Isnt that gonna overwrite my current windows?

Is doing a BIOS update an option?

Clicked repair computer which brings me back to the advanced options screen. Tried system restore from there and it gives me the same message to specify which windows installation to restore, which I dont know how to do.

Tried with and without my backup hdd hooked up which didnt change the outcome.

Unluckily System restore is disabled on your pc. You'd need to enable it to be able to use it in the future.

Anyway ...
1. Disconnect HDD
2. boot from windows install media
3. go to command prompt
4. Execute this to fix BCD store:
Execute these commands, it will give list of available partitions and associated drive letters:
  • diskpart
    list volume
    exit
Then execute this command to fix bcd store (replace X with drive letter of windows partition):
  • bcdboot X:\windows

Ok I did that and got the message "boot files successfully created". Exited command prompt and clicked on "exit and continue to windows 10" but still its still not booting. Tried booting without windows installation media and its not working either.

Was there a step I missed after bcdboot?
