Incompatible apps on 4K display laptop

I bought a Dell laptop with 4K display a while back.
But I noticed that some of the apps have some problem running on it.
KM Player for instance. I have some videos with encoded subtitles in them and they do not play on windows player for which I use KM Player.
Now the problem it that the icons within the app (like close, minimize, play, pause) are tiny.
I was wondering if there was any solution to this without degrading the display quality.

One of the reasons why i don't recommend 4K monitors - scaling issues.
