Hello. I am building an entry level gaming PC for my brother. I have a msi FM2-A55M-E33 board, which I think might be DOA, but this is my first build on my own and I'm not sure how to tell. I'm trying to run it with an AMD A8 5500 quad processor, which it claims to be compatible with, but I read it may need a bios update. I don't have another CPU to update if this is the issue. Does anyone else have experience with this? I press power, and everything works (fans, sata devices, etc) but I get no bios setup screen. I'm using VGA out to a sharp HDTV. Please help, my brother is really disappointed that he can't play Garry's mod like I promised, haha. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Some mobos need you to hit del vs esc vs f2 vs f8 so maybe try repeatedly hitting anyone of those right at boot up to see if it gets you into bios (my apologies if you tried this already but you never know). You can get the bios update on a usb from a friends computer and connect it and likely update it if the mobo is new enough and capable. Some boards do require the update before they will work and yours just may be one of them. Otherwise you may be correct that the board is doa. However, let's eliminate one variable at a time. Go to a library and bring a usb and try that if you're nearest friend is farther than that. Hopefully your board is usb bios compatible. I'll double check and see if I can find that later. How did you post this if you don't have access to another cpu btw?

UPDATE:
Here's a link to a msi youtube vid on how to use m-flash:

Hopefully this gets you up and running in no time!

Thanks,
