Incompatible memory, or bios problem?

Hello everyone,

I appreciate you taking the time to read this and provide your input. I recently built my first PC.

The motherboard I am using is the ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

The memory I have installed is the G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Intel X99 Platform Extreme Performance Memory Model F4-3000C15D-16GRBB

After updated my bios, I noticed that the memory speed in the bios is set to 2133. If I try to increase the memory frequency to 3000, the PC will reboot, turn on, but will not post. In order to get the PC to post (clearing the CMOS doesn't seem to work), I have to remove one of the ram sticks, allow the system to boot and detect the new ram configuration, shutdown, reinstall the second memory stick, and reboot again. This works, but I am again stuck running at a frequency of 2133.

I noticed that the compatible memory list, according to Asus for the mobo, does not include seem to include my exact model number of ram.

I am assuming I have ram that is not compatible with my motherboard? Another possibility could be the recent bios update, as I don't remember noticing this discrepancy before. Would it be smart to downgrade the bios, and give that a try?

Also, as a side note, if I attempt to adjust the ram in anyway, so far (as in overclocking, etc), the PC won't post and I have to perform the steps above.

Thanks so much for you help!

Thank you for the reply.

I am running Intel Boxed Core I7-6700K 4.00 GHz 8M Processor Cache 4 LGA 1151.

Extra, possibly unnecessary information:

I am using a cool master hyper 212 evo to cool the processor, along with 4 corsairs led fans (3 intake, 1 exhaust), and 2 original case fans (2 top exhaust). This along with a Asus ROG gtx 1070, runs extremely cool.

I mention the above because I am unable to overclock the build, and successfully post. That being said, I have only tried to overclock the build using the Bios EZtune application, and the Asus Suite 3 (software interface for overclocking). Both times I believe the ram was overclocked along side, not just the cpu.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, it still won't post when I make the recommended changes. I know very little about overclocking, or I would try and troubleshoot it myself. Any other recommendations?

Thanks again.
