So I wound up with two free M471A4G43MB1 sticks and decided to try putting them in my laptop (ASUS FX503VD)
The processor only supports DDR4-2400 but M471A4G43MB1 is rated for DDR4-2666.
I assumed it would just operate at the lower frequency but according to CPU-Z the RAM is running at ~1330 Mhz
Normally I'd just accept the oddity and roll with it since I have no idea how that stuff works
But the portion of the mainboard where the RAM is installed is physically warmer than it used to be with the stock RAM.
And it smells like burning plastic/rubber...
Ran a diagnostic on the RAM (Windows memtest) & CPU (IPDT). Both pass with no errors o-o
Still smells like burning every once in a while
Was initially worried it was from not having some driver/firmware upgrade but everything is installed and running.
(I also set the governer keeping the CPU @ ~1Ghz for now)

Any idea how to make the burning smell stop?

Hottest the CPU got when operating normally was 44°C. Pretty sure I didn't shock anything installing the ram cards... No visible damage either
Although it also reports 4 RAM slots now (There are only 2)
