I am using an MSI motherboard, A88XM-E45-V2 which I have been using with 16GB RAM for a while now and wanted a bump up.
The specs from MSI's page for the this motherboard, state that Max RAM for this MB is 64GB.
From Newegg, I purchased 32GB ram and it was delivered today.
The RAM I purchased was 2GB 2x 16GB Dell PowerEdge T320 T420 T610 T620 Memory RAM DDR3 PC3-8500 ECC REG

After several tries, putting the new ram in slots 1 and 3, followed by trying slots 2 and 4, it seems no matter what I do so far, that this motherboard, will not see the new RAM I purchased.
Can anyone offer advice on where I went wrong?
Thanks!

Solution
looks like msi's page says
• Supports non-ECC, un-buffered memory

Your memory sticks seem to be ECC, thus quite likely the compatability problem is there.

Also IF you are trying to use both old and new sticks at same time, keep in mind that some sticks are 1.35V and some are 1.5V

Also MSI has tested that board to work only with one 16GB stick type.

not saying others wont work, just that MSI didn't test back in the day with more than that one type.

Shucks I ordered the wrong kind?
What is ECC RAM anyway?
I can't even see that Hynix H5TQ1G83AFRH9C is available for sale anywhere.

First I have to return this, then, how would you suggest I achieve 32 GB for this motherboard? 4X8?
Total newbie to this aspect.
Thanks a lot!
