Inconsistence?

Good day to you all,

I believe there is some inconsistence in my motherboard's manual. Please take look at these two pictures:

http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/6890/asusmemory1uj9.png
http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/5811/asusmemory2bes0.png

They are snippets from the manual and I believe that statement #1 and #2 on the second picture contradict each other.

I'm pretty sure that statement #1 is simply nonsensical - it says that total size of memory per channel must be the same, that is true, however it also says that A1 + B1 = A2 + B2.

It should really be A1+A2 = B1+B2, am I right?

Thanks.

But then their formula wouldn't work:

A1 + B1 = A1 + B2

if the letters determine the channel and the number the color and bank - then the real formula should be A1+A2 = B1+B2, no?

Say you install two 1 GB DIMMs in the yellow color sockets - both channels have the same ammount of memory.
Then you buy two 512 MB DIMMs and you install them in the black sockets. After that the first channel has 1 Gig + 512 MB (first yellow socket and first black socket) and the second channel has the same combination - 1 GB + 512 MB (second yellow socket and second black socket)

So whose formula is correct? Mine or the one from manual?

I've tried mixing different size memory sticks in the same color coded slots. They may work, but not in dual channel mode. However, you can put 2 512 sticks in the yellow, and 2 1 gig in the dark slots, and you should be still running in dual channel mode. And you may be right; sometimes the board manual has a misprint.
