Inconsistent black screen

Just bought a used Samsung s27d850t. Running Win 10, have a GTX 970, latest nvidia drivers. Running a second monitor (Yiynova) and I am having inconsistent luck getting the Samsung to display anything. I know it works, because twice I've gotten an image to appear, but after restart/sleep I can no longer get the image back. When I first plugged in the Samsung (using Displayport), no image on it, but the 2nd monitor was fine (had monitors set to extend with the Samsung the primary). Turning off the Samsung the Yiynova became the primary. I've tried a couple dozen restarts, uninstalling nvidia driver, trying an old driver, booting into safe mode, rebooting normally, turning off sleep for the Samsung, pressing the power button on the Samsung, pressing the Samsung input button, etc. Even though twice (once yesterday, once today) I've gotten the Samsung to (seemingly randomly?) display, it doesn't "stick" i.e. upon restart I'm back to no display on the Samsung. I've tried the Samsung attached to a laptop btw, also had a black screen. Sorry if there is not a clear process here, but I'd appreciate any help/direction to get the Samsung reliably displaying video!

Hi,

Here are some troubleshooting steps that may help.
- First, do test the Samsung monitor if it's really working fine.
- If you have another laptop or PC that you can connect the Samsung monitor to test it please do.
- Once proven that the Samsung is working perfectly fine onto a different laptop or PC, proceed with doing a clean install of the graphics driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Nvidia graphics driver.
- Next is to open Programs and Features then uninstall anything related to Nvidia.
- Once uninstalled, download and install the latest driver.
- Here's the link: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx
- Reboot the PC once the latest driver has been installed.
- Do also set Nvidia as the default GPU.

Thanks for the ideas (pretty much all of which I've already tried). Here's an update, with hopefully some useful info:

I've had some success (still inconsistent) getting the Samsung working with the following steps:

1. Restart in Safe Mode
2. Uninstall Nvidia stuff using Display Driver Uninstaller
3. Restart with Samsung turned off (but with power and Displayport attached)
4. Using the 2nd monitor (Yiynova) as my primary (btw the Yiynova has only VGA, which I have plugged in to one of the 970's DVI ports using an adapter) I reinstall an older Nvidia driver - 347.88
5. Restart again, this time turning on Samsung once or twice while booting (Yiynova stays on the whole time)

Now, the Samsung gets a signal, "Displayport" appears at the top left, and the Samsung is the primary monitor, everything seems to work perfectly.

BUT, when I shut down, or the PC is inactive for some period of time (I power off the monitor - I have Power settings to have neither the display nor the PC go to sleep), when I turn on the monitor again I'm back to square one - no signal to the Samsung. The Yiynova works fine through all of this.

I've tried using both HDMI and DVI with the Samsung, same issues. One other thing I've tried (thinking this is a card/PCIE issue) is to go into BIOS and change PCIE from Auto to Gen3 - same issue.

It seems like the monitor is fine (?) but there's some trick to getting a consistent signal to it?
