Hi, first time posting here and I'm having trouble with booting on my new build.

I have i5-4670k, ASRock Z87 Extreme4, G.Skill Ares 8gb, Sapphire R9 280, EVGA 650W, CM Evo, and Fractal r4 case.

I tried installing Win8 on it and ran into some problems.
First problem I ran into was cannot install on Drive 0. I loaded appropriate AHCI driver so I'm fairly sure that's not the issue. Also, if I try booting 2 or 3 more times, the warning disappears so I have no idea what the issue is.

Second problem is when I somehow installed Win8 (rebooted until Drive 0 warning disappeared). It only boots correctly 1/4 times.

When it boots, everything works (driver installation, GPU, and everything).

So my question is did anyone experience similar issues with this motherboard or any motherboard in general?
I don't want to just return it to find out this mobo has this problem by default (not mentioning the hassle of removing cooler, cleaning thermal paste, etc.)

Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Can you boot multiple times into the bios menu to see if the hard drive is being recognized there and if so, how often the board is recognizing.

Also, can you double check for loose cabling within the case? An improper connection somewhere along the lines could certainly result in this. Best of luck to ya - Sub

When I boot into bios menu, the drive being recognized about once every 4 boots (same as successful boot into Win8).

I didn't find loose connections and tried different SATA ports. When I change to different port, it works for some time before being not recognized again.
