so i got this 144hz acer predator monitor and i got a vga cable, now i know that it didnt work with that cable so i bought a dvi-d cable. I can chose 144hz aswell as 120 and 100, but when i do it says incorrect cable please use the dvi dual link cable that came with your monitor... i guess i should try to get a displayport cable?, i know my monitor supports it but i dont know if my pc does... should i get displayport to dvi-d?

Solution
i looket at your link. but i already know the deffereince, i think i put it in the wrong socket because when i put it in the other socket it worked perfectly fine with no error i think i solved it, thank you very much for your time. i will message here again if i run into anymore problems
The DVI cable you bought, needs to be a 'dual-link' DVI cable to display these refresh rates. The one you have bought is clearly not dual-link. The one that was originally supplied with your monitor would have been - hence the message on screen. If you want, you can buy a display port cable as this will also support 144Hz.

thank you so very much for your answer sir, the one i bought was a dvi-d cable and it dosent really fit that well on my pc either, but a dvi-i would, but the thing is that when the error shows up on my screen it shows a dvi-d cable so i thought i should by that, but i guess i should buy a dvi-i i put my dvi-d cable in the dvi-i slot so yeah, but how do i know if a displayport cable would fit my pc? (sry for my bad English)

You either need to google a 'dual-link' DVI cable and see where you can purchase one from, or take a look at the back of your GPU and see if there is a display port on there. Also check to make sure your monitor is display port capable.

See this link for a full understanding of the difference between PC video connections : http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/221/~/difference-between-dvi-i-and-dvi-d

Also your English is very good, no need to apologise.

alright i know where i can buy a dvi-i dual link cable, but will this have anything to do with i am using a amd graphics card?, i can run 144 Hz but it just gives me an error on the middle of the screen with blue text saying it, i now know that i am using the wrong cable, and also i looked at my monitor it supports ''dvi-d'' so will it still work if i put a dvi-i cable in it?. and im pretty sure i cant run displayport on my pc because its very old...

Look at the two pictures on that link i sent you. Match up which DVI socket is the one you have. But as the monitor says, 'use a dual-link' cable' this is what you will have to do to achieve a higher refresh rate.
What graphics card are you using?
